J. Adam Shelton,
How did you get started singing?
I always wanted to be a singer. I grew up in the south, so country music was prevalent and my papaw was an amateur country-western singer. In Sunday School around 5 years old, I apparently said, "I'm tired of singin' these Jesus songs," and proceeded to sing "All my exes live in Texas" on a chair. A STAR WAS BORN!
When did you know you wanted to be a musician?
As I got older I started taking voice lessons to be better in the school choir, but my voice didn't fit the "normal" genres. My voice teacher gave me an art song and some legit musical theatre (My Fair Lady) to sing, and before I knew it, I was a music major and a budding classical musician.
What's your favorite Madison restaurant?
It's really unfair of you to make me choose.. I like them all!! I particularly like: Old Fashioned (cheese curds), Fugu (chili chicken), Pasqual's (All things burrito), and Rolling Pin (for baked goods).
What's on your Spotify playlist right now?
I listen to a lot of 80s music. The classic electronic, pop beat kind of stuff like the Pointer Sisters (seeing them in concert in August!), Donna Summer, and Billy Joel are my favorites. If not them, my country queens usually dominate the mix.
Where can we find you when you're not working?
I frequent The Studio Yoga's westside location for classes. I am also a board member at Central Midwest Ballet Academy and can be found helping out around there. I also enjoy coffee so I can be found at Panera, Starbucks, and Cafe Maya on the regular!
